About the Women and Children Shelter…
An average of forty women and 20 children stay at the facility at any given time. The women are expected to get a job within two weeks. Once working, they are required to save 75% of their income. Most pay off all prior debts and save 75% of the balance. They can stay as long as 18 months.
Why host a party?
This ministry was started in 1996 by Kathy Mansfield to provide birthday parties for children living at the shelter. Birthdays are important “rites of passages” and this ministry celebrates the life of each child. It also relieves the stress of mothers, who are struggling to provide for their family.
What can you do?
On the third Sunday of every month, volunteers from St. Luke’s provide a birthday party for all children and provide presents for those children with a birthday that month. A cake and goody bags are given to every child. If you would like to be a part of this ministry, you can volunteer your time, donate gifts, give money or provide entertainment.
The parties start at 4:00pm. Everyone should meet at the Shelter at 3:30pm. Toddlers through seniors are encouraged to serve in this ministry.
